Rome Transfer Market: Gasperini Awaits Wingers—Four Candidates in the Running

Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini is waiting for new signings to round out the roster. Ahead of the league opener, scheduled for Monday at the Olimpico against Fiorentina, Roma’s management continues to be active in the transfer market in search of reinforcements. Among the names being tracked is Jamie Gittens, an English winger owned by Chelsea who has made a name for himself while playing for Borussia Dortmund. The young talent could become a serious option in the final stages of negotiations, although at the moment the London club does not seem willing to let him go.

According to reports from Sportitalia, the Giallorossi have already submitted an official request to the Blues for the player’s loan. Gittens, a winger born in 2004, joined Chelsea last year from Borussia Dortmund for 65 million euros, but he has struggled to make an impact in the Premier League, making just four starts and also hampered by some muscle issues. At Roma, he could find the consistency he’s lacked in England, and Gasperini is particularly impressed by his profile precisely because of his ability to bring unpredictability to the attack. Meanwhile, negotiations with Lyon for Malick Fofana remain on hold, prompting Roma to explore the possibility of signing the English winger with greater determination.

It’s not just about the attack: Roma is also working to strengthen its defensive flanks, an area of particular concern for Gasperini. With the departures of Tsimikas and Angeliño, Wesley is essentially the only player left on the left flank—though he’s naturally a right-back and has already been adapted to play on the opposite side. For this reason, management is exploring multiple options simultaneously.

Among the players being monitored is Jayden Oosterwolde, a fullback for Fenerbahçe, for whom the Giallorossi have reportedly already submitted an offer based on a loan with an option to buy for a sum close to 20 million euros, including bonuses. The deal is being held up by the Dutch player’s physical condition; he is currently injured and is expected to return in about three weeks. The list also includes Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie, a player particularly favored by Gasperini but with a high price tag of around 25 million euros, and the young Cacciamani of Torino, valued by the Granata at between 18 and 20 million, while the Giallorossi’s offer is reportedly around 10 million. Hector Fort, a fullback born in 2006 owned by Barcelona and fresh off a loan stint at Elche, has also been scouted.

On the offensive front, negotiations with Inter for Luis Henrique remain open. The Giallorossi are negotiating with the Nerazzurri on the basis of a loan with an obligation to buy for a total of around 30 million, including a fixed fee and bonuses, but the deal has not yet been finalized. A successful conclusion to these talks could also have implications for Inter’s transfer market, with the Nerazzurri ready to reinvest part of the proceeds into a final signing for the attack.
