After 28 years, Inter and Piero Ausilio are parting ways. The now-former Nerazzurri sporting director was unable to reach an agreement with the club regarding a contract extension, and his departure was made official on Wednesday afternoon via a statement published on the club’s official website.

“FC Internazionale Milano and Piero Ausilio announce that they have mutually agreed to part ways effective today. Ausilio has been with the club for approximately 28 years, assuming increasingly greater responsibilities. For many seasons, Piero served as Secretary, Head of Operations, and then Director of the Youth Academy. In December 2010, he joined the First Team, becoming Sporting Director and Head of the Technical Department in February 2014. In this key role, he contributed to winning a total of nine trophies: three Serie A titles, three Coppa Italia titles, and three Serie A Super Cups. His invaluable work also led to the club reaching three European finals—two in the UEFA Champions League and one in the UEFA Europa League.”

These are the words of Beppe Marotta: “I would like to thank Piero on behalf of the entire Club, the Owners, and every single employee of the great Nerazzurri family. I share with him moments of joy, victories, hard work, and great passion.”

Dario Baccin, who works closely with the First Team and the Technical Department, will assume the role of Chief Sports Officer effective today: “Dario knows the Club well and is now ready to take on this new role that the owners and I have designed for him. This is an innovative decision, while still ensuring managerial continuity,” concluded Marotta. “For many years, Dario has been a fundamental part of the technical department, and he is the manager who worked to establish the Under-23 team in close collaboration with the First Team, with a view toward the progressive and sustainable development of the Club.”.

“Thank you to the owners, executives, and all staff members who have placed their trust in me over the years, granting me the honor of leading the sports department of this giant of world soccer. And thanks to all the coaches, players—immense champions and true men—who, with their talent and hard work, have raised trophies to the heavens that will forever be etched in the history of this club, such as the Nerazzurri’s Second Star. I am leaving this role, but I will never be able to let go of these colors. Today, it’s not just a professional chapter that’s closing: a piece of my soul is parting ways with what I’ve loved most,” said Piero Ausilio.
