All the reasons why former accountant Rudolph Speid wants Jamaica at the World Cup

In addition to playoffs between European national teams, “international” playoffs are also being played these days. Two places are up for grabs. Iraq, DR Congo (both already in the finals), Suriname, Bolivia, New Caledonia and Jamaica are playing for them. The scheduled semifinals are Bolivia-Suriname and New Caledonia-Jamaica. They are being played in Mexico. Great pressure on many national teams, especially Jamaica.
Last November, after missing out on direct qualification to the World Cup (big celebration for Curacao), Steve McLaren left Jamaica’s bench. In his place was put a 64-year-old former accountant and treasurer, namely Rudolph Speid. An “interim” hire with a clear goal: to bring the Reggae Boyz back to a World Cup final stage. It would be the second time after participating in the 1998 edition.
Rudolph Speid did not back down and answered his nation’s call with great enthusiasm, ready to give everything for his country: “I think most of the time, the goals I set out to do, I achieved them and I’m ready to give my best. Whatever the outcome will be, I will know how to live with it. The pressure doesn’t worry me at all,” his words to the Jamaica Observer.
In his statements, also an important reflection: “We all want to go to the World Cup, we all want to give a smile to the Jamaicans who work hard and pay to come watch us play in the stadium. There is also an economic issue, because the players will be in a better position to negotiate their personal contracts and earn a living if we go to the World Cup.” Rudolph Speid was a former accountant, clear no?”
