National Team Bench: Pep Guardiola Takes Everyone by Surprise: “I Need to Try New Things”

Pep Guardiola is currently without a team. After leading Manchester City for a full ten seasons, the 55-year-old Spanish coach has called it quits. Many are wondering where he’ll coach next year.
Most Italian fans are hoping he’ll take the helm at on the Azzurri bench, even though, at the moment, this possibility seems rather unlikely (the current favorite is Andrea Pirlo).
In a lengthy interview with OKX, Pep Guardiola discussed his future, making his position very clear: “I started at Barcelona at age 37, and now I’m 56 (actually, he’s still 55, ed.). I need to do new things. Right now, I’m very happy,” he said.
In addition to not ruling out the possibility of returning to Manchester City, the Spanish coach also spoke about the World Cup final, highlighting one point: “If Rodri shows his quality in midfield alongside Pedri and Lamine Yamal, and is in top form, Spain can make the difference.” For now, then, he’ll watch the World Cup final as a mere spectator, waiting to decide what to do in the near future. Who knows—perhaps among those “new things” could even be the idea of coaching a national soccer team, maybe even Italy.
