Cagliari Stadium, there's a big problem (and meanwhile Uefa arrives)

On Wednesday, April 1, a meeting is scheduled between Uefa delegate Michele Uva, Cagliari’s local administrators and Tommaso Giulini’s club to discuss the stadium issue. The union of European soccer federations wants to understand whether by June, as per the works program, it will be possible to publish the international call for bids for the assignment of the works and then get to start the construction site as early as next year.

In the City Council, Sports Councillor Giuseppe Macciotta took stock of the issue: “The issue of the new stadium has been animating the city debate for decades now. One of the central stages of the journey is that of the presentation of the economic-financial plan that arrived in December 2025, the subject of an instructive analysis by the junta and relevant offices that have analyzed it with the utmost care, dedication and, above all, of the utmost third party. A strict and careful analysis on the content and partitions that characterize the agreement proposed by Cagliari Calcio.”

The Councillor then pointed the finger at Tommaso Giulini: “Reading his interview where he links the acquisition of the majority shares of the club to the stadium project, I found this statement unfortunate. For us this is news because the PEF disregards any connection of free corporate choices, private affairs are totally unrelated to this project. Then clearly this cannot be prevented, but these are third-party elements to the work of the junta. The evaluation of the PEF must be disconnected from the proven situations of the proposing party.”

The problem of the proposed fee of 50,000 euros remains: “It is striking for its exiguity, while understanding that the sustainability of the PEF also passes through the amount of the fee. On this the interlocutions are open and the contribution of ideas and reflections from this room will also be important. We have already highlighted in our opinion the insufficiency of the fee and the proposing company’s position is quite clear on the point,” Macciotta said.
