It took just over an hour for Carlos Alcaraz to respond to Jannik Sinner’s success against Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000: the Murcian champion, in fact, easily got the better of Alexander Bublik, beaten 6-3, 6-0 on the Principality’s clay, in a match that never had any history.

Immediately down by a break after only one game, Bublik managed to retaliate a little later, with the counterbreak making it 2-2 in the first game fraction. From there, however, came a dominant ten-game partial to one for Alcaraz, who thus secured his third consecutive victory and returned to convincing form after a few too many difficulties shown in the previous match against Tomas Martin Etcheverry.

Alcaraz thus remains in the running for an encore in Monte Carlo: the current number 1 in the ATP ranking is in fact the reigning champion of the competition, having won the 2025 edition in the final against Lorenzo Musetti, who was not enough to win the first set (the match ended 3-6, 6-1, 6-0).

The Murcian arrived in Monte Carlo on the heels of two disappointing results, by his standards, in the United States: in Indian Wells he had missed out on access to the final act against Jannik Sinner by losing the semifinal to Daniil Medvedev, while in Miami he had surprisingly exited in the third round, bowed out in three sets by Sebastian Korda.
