Tyra Grant’s Madrid Masters 1000 ended in the second round, defeated by Sorana Cîrstea in two sets with a score of 6-2, 7-5. The Romanian, credited with the number 25 seed, won in a total of one hour and 26 minutes of the match.

In the first set Cîrstea imposed her own rhythm from the start, managing the exchanges with greater solidity and managing to obtain two decisive breaks: the first in the sixth game and the second in the eighth, thus closing the partial without any particular difficulty. In the second set, however, the challenge was much more balanced. Grant managed to get off to a strong start, winning a break in the opening game and showing more aggressive and continuous tennis.

The Italian then maintained her lead until the final stages of the set, coming to serve at 6-5 with a real chance to drag the match to the third set. However, right at the most important moment, she suffered the reaction of Cirstea who managed to recover the break and take the partial to the tie-break, where she then made her experience count by closing the match in two sets.
