Tadej Pogacar infinite: the Slovenian champion won Liège-Bastogne-Liège for the fourth time in his career, the third in a row. The UAE team’s star rider asserted himself again at the Doyenne, the oldest Monument Classic, by taming the talented Frenchman Paul Seixas in the finale.

Thanks to this success Pocagar (13 Monument Classics won so far) has joined Moreno Argentin and Spaniard Alejandro Valverde in the roll of honor at four wins: now he has only Eddy Merckx left to hook him, who won the race five times during his career.

Pogacar after a good duel pulled away from Seixas on the last climb, the Roche aux Faucons, after the transalpine had managed to hold on the Côte de La Redoute. At the finish line he dedicated the victory to Camilo Muñoz, the former teammate who died during the week after a crash. The 19-year-old Seixas finished second at 45 seconds, third was Belgian Remco Evenepoel of Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe. Among the Italians, eighth place for Christian Scaroni, tenth for Filippo Zana.

Pogacar applauded Seixas after the win: “On the Redoute I was really going full throttle and I could see he was on the limit, but at the top he flanked me and impressed me. He also gave very strong changes when we were in the breakaway and we created a nice gap. Somewhere in the lead I was getting ready for a two-man sprint, but on the Roche-aux-Faucons I accelerated, keeping a high pace because I know the climb well and it is very suitable for me. Fortunately it came off, but honestly I was ready to have to play for the win in the sprint.”
