Jose Mourinho, the resounding speculation divides fans

The indiscretion relaunched by The Athletic that Real Madrid is considering a resounding return of Jose Mourinho for the post‑Arbeloa has ignited an immediate debate not only among the Blancos fans, but among titti soccer fans in Europe. The idea of seeing the Special One back at the Bernabeu more than a decade after his first experience (which lasted from 2010 to 2013 with a La Liga, a Copa del Rey and a Spanish Super Cup in the trophy cabinet) is as appealing to some as it is revisable to others.

For comeback supporters, Mourinho still represents a symbol of identity and character. His first Madrid era left some scars, but also a mental imprint that many remember as the beginning of the rebirth later completed by Zinedine Zidane and Carlo Ancelotti. There are those who see in Mourinho the right man to manage a locker room full of personality, protect young talent and bring back that intensity that was lacking in this season that began with Xabi Alonso and continued, after the Basque’s exoneration, with the ferryman Arbeloa.

On the other hand, however, there are those who believe that Mourinho’s soccer belongs to another era. His latest experiences, amid ups and downs, fuel, at least as far as a portion of fans are concerned, doubts about his ability to adapt to today’s Real Madrid context, wishing for an Ancelotti-like “manager” rather than an “iron sergeant” like the Portuguese. On social media, there are many Real supporters according to whom the club should look forward and not return to a past that has divided the environment.

The failure of the Alonso management and the possibility of ending the season with zero titles, to use a Mourinho-esque expression, would have convinced the club to look to an experienced figure, dropping for now the idea of entrusting the Merengues’ team to an innovative coach. At the same time, Arbeloa would return to lead the second team, accumulating further experience before the big leap. There is not much time to decide: the Mourinho suggestion, for better or worse, forces everyone to take a stand.
