Messi reconsiders: yes to the national team

Argentinean soccer is going through one of the darkest periods in its history. Dry of victories for 23 years, reeling from three finals lost in the last three years, the one at the 2014 World Cup and the two consecutive ones in the Copa America on penalties against Chile, now there is also the shame of elimination in the first round at the Rio Games, as has not happened since 1964.
A small ray of sunshine, however, is about to bring him Lionel Messi, who less than two months after announcing his farewell to the national team’s jersey, just after the defeat against Chile in the final of the continental tournament, seems to be ready to retrace his steps, as anticipated by the “Mundo Deportivo.”
Decisive would be a confrontation with the newly appointed Séleccion coach Edgardo Bauza, who had obviously set himself this goal in order to start his difficult mandate well.
Bauza spoke at length with Messi on the sidelines of the Gamper Trophy won by Barcelona against Sampdoria: “I saw him with a great desire to come back,” said Bauza, about to make it official in the list of summoned players for the matches against Uruguay and Venezuela scheduled in September and valid for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers in Russia. For what will truly be Leo’s last call-up with the Albiceleste.
