Inter market: scudetto brings redemption of a top, revamping also ready (away in five)

The celebration that erupted on Sunday night at the triple whistle of Inter-Parma not only sanctioned the mathematical conquest of the Nerazzurri’s 21st Scudetto, but also officially kicked off maneuvering for the future. With the tricolor sewn on his chest three days in advance, the clause making Manuel Akanji an Inter player outright was automatically triggered. The Swiss defender, who arrived in the summer from Manchester City on a 2 million onerous loan deal, will now be bought back for 15 million euros. A total investment of 17 million that turned out to be an apt operation by Marotta and Ausilio: Akanji has become the pivot of Cristian Chivu’s defense, guaranteeing solidity and leadership on the way to the title.
If Akanji’s redemption represents continuity, the summer market will inevitably mark the end of an era for several protagonists of the last few years. The club’s strategy is clear: lower the average age and the payroll, saying goodbye to those “senators” whose contracts expire in June 2026. Among the posts, Yann Sommer’s farewell seems now certain; the Swiss goalkeeper will make way for a younger profile (with the spotlight on a futuristic new number one).
The backroom will also undergo a profound mutation. Stefan de Vrij, Francesco Acerbi, and Matteo Darmian, the three experienced defenders who have made Inter’s fortunes in recent years, are about to bid farewell to the Pinetina on a zero-parameter basis. Akanji’s explosion and the need to bring in fresh forces have pushed the management toward non-renewal. It will be a painful but necessary separation, the child of a planning that aims to rejuvenate the squad with more futuristic profiles.
The midfield is preparing to lose one of its most elegant interpreters: Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Although the Armenian has also been instrumental in this Scudetto ride, the club’s orientation is not to extend the relationship beyond June 30, 2026. Inter wants to free up wage space to make an assault on new targets (such as the dream Nico Paz) and complete that generational change already started with the grafts of the last sessions. For Sommer, De Vrij, Acerbi, Darmian and Mkhitaryan, the next three games will be the deserved final catwalk before handing over the keys to the Inter of the future.
