Ducati’s 2026 World Championship got off to an unexpected start: ahead is Aprilia, while the Borgo Panigale factory riders are struggling. The nine-time world champion Marc Marquez has had a slow start and is fifth in the standings with 57 points: the Catalan champion has done well in the sprints with several podiums, but in the long races he has not yet achieved significant results and has also collected two retirements. Even Pecco Bagnaia is struggling and continues to have problems that complicate his start to the season.

Gigi Dall’Igna commented on the situation to the microphones of Spanish daily Marca: “The balance is positive for the difficulties experienced in the first races, but the lack of results of the official riders has affected.” The CEO of the racing department is also aware that in order to catch up with Aprilia we need to take an extra step: “We need to improve our efforts to bring something more.” He also said that innovations were tried at the Jerez test: “Innovations have been tried and some will definitely be used in the next races,” he said, “now we have to analyze the data.”

However, Dall’Igna sees a different championship than in previous years: “We have a difficult championship ahead of us. There are many challenges and that’s what motivates us every day.”

The next round, the fifth of the World Championship, will be held in France between May 8 and 10.
