Giro d'Italia, Vingegaard wants to write history and lists his most dangerous rivals

Jonas Vingegaard is ready to write history at the Giro d’Italia: the Danish cyclist’s goal is to become the eighth champion capable of winning all three grand tours. In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, the two-time Tour de France winner knows that he is the big favorite in the pink race: “For several years my racing program was very similar. I felt the need for a change. The Giro is a great goal, plus I’m convinced that through these weeks I will get to the top in the Tour as well. But now, head only to the pink.”
“Being able to do the Giro-Tour-Vuelta hat trick before Pogacar doesn’t interest me, I want to achieve this hat trick for me. It means making a piece of history. He will make it too, it’s just a matter of time. Tadej, perhaps, is the best ever. But I have already beaten him and I have confidence that I can do it again.”
On the Giro route: “I studied it, I went over it a lot also because there was no way to do any reconnaissance. In Bulgaria we will have to be careful of the wind. Of hard days, then, there are several. Blockhaus. Then Corno alle Scale, the Val d’Aosta tappone, the Dolomite one. On certain occasions you will be able to make quite a gap.”
“The Giro is the most unpredictable race, you will have to be ready every day, because surprises, more than anywhere else, can be everywhere.”
Vingegaard listed his main rivals: “There are many. Adam Yates, Pellizzari, Bernal, O’Connor, Gall. It will take my best version to win. The signs I have are very good. In March the form was satisfactory, but I’m working on going up, in May and then in July.”
