Evaristo Beccalossi, moving remembrance of Beppe Bergomi

While speaking to Sky Sport 24, Beppe Bergomi wanted to remember Evaristo Beccalossi, who passed away at the age of 69 and with whom he shared the Inter locker room between 1980 and 1984. “He was someone who always welcomed the younger players with a smile and always found the right word,” Bergomi recounted. “On the field, then, he was a true soccer genius, endowed with extraordinary talent. Continuity may not have been his main quality, but with his flair he made generations of Inter fans and others fall in love with him.”
The former Nerazzurri captain then emphasized the transversal affection Beccalossi knew how to win in the world of soccer: “In the 1982 World Champions chat, wonderful messages came from Gentile, Tardelli and Bruno Conti. Even the opponents loved a player like Evaristo Beccalossi.”
Words of sorrow also came from Alessandro ‘Spillo’ Altobelli, his teammate and attacking partner in the 1980 Scudetto, reached by Corriere della Sera in Kuwait: “The real dead man is me, I’m in Kuwait and I’m looking for flights to come back.” An outburst that says a lot about how deep the bond between the two was.
Equally moved was the memory of Giampiero Marini, another protagonist of that triumphant season: “Evaristo was a very dear friend, we often met up with other former Inter players for dinner and he, more than anyone else, brought joy. He will be sorely missed. I had the privilege of being his teammate and he was a footballer who was also greatly appreciated by the fans. With him, on the field, I spent wonderful years. Today it is difficult to find such footballers, with that class and imagination. He was born to play, he brought joy.”
