Torino market, Ventura resurfaces and the granata front splits

Torino, coming off an anonymous season, will start with one certainty: a thorough reorganization will be needed for 2026-2027. Roberto D’Aversa’s stay on the bench now seems out of any scenario, and a new coach is being reasoned about at the club. Even before the coach, however, Urbano Cairo wants to intervene on the managerial structure: the patron’s idea, according to ‘Tuttosport’, is to flank sporting director Gianluca Petrachi with a superconsultant: the Turin newspaper, specifically, names Gian Piero Ventura.
78 years old on January 14, Ventura has been out of the loop since 2020, when he finished tenth in Serie B with Salernitana. In Turin, however, he has left important memories: promotion to Serie A in 2012, four solid seasons in the top flight, and a seventh-place finish in 2014, the best granata result since his last rise among the big boys. A past, the one just described, that for many fans represents a guarantee of competence and knowledge of the environment, at least as far as one can tell from social comments to the latest rumors.
For others, however, Ventura’s return, even if not as coach, would be a step backward. There are those who associate his name with failure with the national team and those who fear a situation like the one experienced by Roma, where the cohabitation between Gasperini and Ranieri, the latter an adviser to the ownership until a few weeks ago, resulted in public tensions and internal frictions, until Sir Claudio’s surprise departure. The risk, according to the most skeptical, is that of creating a confused decision-making chain, with overlapping roles and unclear responsibilities.
In spite of this, a part of the fan base sees Ventura’s solution as an opportunity: an experienced profile, capable of affecting the construction of the team and giving it a recognizable imprint, especially at a stage when Torino needs to regain identity and continuity. The discussion is open and Granata fans are questioning: Ventura’s name, years later, is making noise again.
