Davis Cup: Sinner’s replacement chosen. Breathless for Berrettini
Sinner forced to forfeit due to hand problem
Jannik Sinner has been forced to forfeit the Davis Cup Finals, scheduled to be held in Malaga starting Nov. 22, due to a right hand problem suffered at the Paris-Bercy Masters 1000.
“I am very sad to announce that I will not be able to participate in the Davis Cup Finals. I have been suffering from a finger injury since Paris,” explained the Italian player. “Unfortunately, I am not yet healed and therefore I will not be able to be part of our team. It was a very difficult decision for me, playing for my country is always an honor and I hope I can come back soon. Forza Italia.”
Filippo Volandri will replace Sinner with Lorenzo Sonego, who has already been pre-alerted; Lorenzo Musetti will thus become a singles player. Eyes are also on Matteo Berrettini, who missed the Vienna and Paris tournaments due to a foot problem and is trying at all costs to recover for the challenge with the United States.
