Just hours before the reigning world champions Argentina were set to kick off their 2026 World Cup campaign against Algeria in Kansas City, serious incidents broke out in Times Square, New York. In the Big Apple’s famous square, the two sets of fans clashed, and all hell broke loose.

In recent hours, videos of the violence between Algerian and Argentine fans have been circulating online—truly distressing images that have nothing to do with the spirit of the World Cup, which this year is being held across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Argentina triumphed in the last World Cup held in Qatar, defeating France in a penalty shootout, and this year has been placed in Group J alongside Austria, Jordan, and Algeria.

Here are the players called up by head coach Lionel Scaloni: Emiliano Martínez, Gerónimo Rulli, Juan Musso, Nicolás Otamendi, Nicolás Tagliafico, Germán Pezzella, Gonzalo Montiel, Cristian Romero, Facundo Medina, Nahuel Molina, Lisandro Martínez, Marcos Senesi, Leandro Paredes, Rodrigo De Paul, Giovani Lo Celso, Exequiel Palacios, Alexis Mac Allister, Enzo Fernández, Valentín Barco, Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martínez, Nicolás González, Julián Álvarez, Thiago Almada, José Manuel López, Nico Paz.
