A close-up shot of Jannik Sinner’s right foot during his first-round match against Miomir Kecmanovic at Wimbledon raised more than a few questions. A conspicuous red mark on the side of his little toe alarmed both fans and insiders alike, who took to social media to comment on what they had just seen on TV.

Jannik Sinner went on to lose the set in a tiebreak (8-6) on Wimbledon’s Centre Court. After losing the first set 6-4, the world No. 1 and defending champion had won the second set 6-3, only to find himself playing catch-up once again; the South Tyrolean, incidentally, had taken a nasty fall that appeared to have no lasting consequences.

Sinner returned to competitive play nearly a month after his unexpected second-round exit against Juan Manuel Cerundolo at Roland Garros—a match he had all but won that turned into a sporting nightmare following a physical collapse due to the Parisian heat. In between, he played and won a single exhibition match against Cameron Norrie. The South Tyrolean is the defending champion at Wimbledon, having won the 2025 tournament in the final against Carlos Alcaraz, a notable absentee from the 2026 tournament.
