Anti-Milan Banner: Sanctions for Marcus Thuram and Inter

Sanctions have been imposed on Inter and Marcus Thuram following the anti-Milan banners displayed during the Scudetto celebration on May 17. The French forward, riding on the open-top bus with his Nerazzurri teammates through the streets of Milan, had displayed two banners deemed offensive to the Rossoneri fans.

The first banner depicted a rat against a Rossoneri-colored background; the second featured an offensive slogan (“Stick your derby wins up your a..”), a reference to a famous banner displayed by Massimo Ambrosini after the Rossoneri won the Champions League in 2007, which read: “Stick the Scudetto up your a..”.

Both Thuram and Inter reached a plea agreement and were each fined 5,000 euros: “Following a settlement agreement reached by the parties (pursuant to Art. 126 of the CGS), Inter player Marcus Lilian Thuram Ulien was fined 5,000 euros. Inter was also fined the same amount, on the basis of strict liability.”

This is the rationale for Thuram’s penalty: “For having, during the parade organized on May 17, 2026, by Inter to celebrate their victory in the Serie A soccer championship and the Coppa Italia, while aboard an open-top bus, displayed on two separate and successive occasions two banners (more precisely: banners) with content that was unequivocally suggestive, disrespectful, and offensive toward A.C. Milan and its fans.”

The French forward finished the 2025–2026 season with 18 goals in 44 total matches, making a decisive contribution to Inter’s 21st league title in club history.
