Carlo Calcagni is a legend: 3 gold medals in 24 hours at the Italian Championships in Grosseto

Three gold medals in just twenty-four hours: the 2026 Italian National Championships in Grosseto ended on a legendary note for Carlo Calcagni. The Army Colonel (Honorary Rank) and Paralympic cycling champion has achieved yet another feat in an extraordinary career, but behind the glitter of the three gold medals lies a story that, once again, goes far beyond mere athletic achievement.
Calcagni himself wanted to emphasize how these triumphs represent much more than three “simple” victories: “Behind every medal there is training, sacrifice, pain, giving things up, therapy, travel, hospital stays, difficult nights, and an unshakable determination never to give up. Every time I step onto the track, I carry with me my story, my battles, and all the people who, with love and professionalism, make it possible for me to be there.”
Calcagni then expressed deep gratitude toward his family, his coaches, the opponents who make every challenge worthwhile, and all the healthcare staff who care for him every day, allowing him to pursue his dreams. A special and heartfelt thank you went to Franco, a constant and vital presence.
“A special thank you goes to Franco, who is always by my side. Without his presence, his help, and his tireless dedication, I quite simply wouldn’t even be able to leave home to get to a race. These medals are his too, because every achievement is the result of teamwork built on sacrifice, patience, and heart,” said Calcagni.
From Grosseto, the colonel returns home with a full haul of medals but, above all, with the certainty that no goal is achieved alone, sending a message of resilience that is not a point of arrival but a new beginning: the promise is to continue fighting with the same determination as always to prove that the power of will can transcend all limits and that one must always keep fighting.
