Jannik Sinner is full steam ahead at Wimbledon. The Italian tennis player, who is not yet at his best, managed to defeat Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff in three sets, successfully conserving his energy ahead of Friday’s semifinal against either Novak Djokovic or Felix Auger-Aliassime.

The player from Sesto Pusteria appeared relaxed during the match, and in the third set, he was the star of a charming little moment. As he was about to serve, a young fan in the stands called out to him: “Jannik!” The world No. 1 paused, interrupted his serve, smiled, and waved to the child.

In the first set, the match remained close until 5-5, when Sinner stepped up his game, securing the decisive break and closing out the set 7-5. The second set was even tighter: the Italian broke early, but Struff immediately responded with a break of his own. At 5-6, Sinner even had to save a set point before forcing a tiebreak and winning it 7-4 with great composure in the decisive moments. In the third set, the decisive break came at 4-3, with a magnificent backhand down the line, before he closed out the set 6-3 on his first match point.

With this victory, Sinner reaches his third Wimbledon semifinal, confirming his extraordinary consistency on the London grass: this marks his fifth consecutive year among the top eight at the Championships. In Major quarterfinals, the Italian has lost only five of the sixteen matches he has played—all against top-5 opponents—a testament to his resilience in the decisive stages of Grand Slam tournaments.
