Another Injury for Matteo Berrettini

Matteo Berrettini is sidelined again: the Roman tennis player, just a few days after being eliminated from Wimbledon following his loss to Grigor Dimitrov, has announced that he will skip the upcoming tournaments on the ATP Tour. The Italian player is experiencing hip pain, and doctors have advised him to take a few weeks off to recover.
“After discussing it with my doctor and my team, I was diagnosed with chronic hip pain, and I was advised that the best thing to do is rest so that I’ll be ready for the series of tournaments in the United States.”
The goal is therefore to return for the U.S. tour, which will culminate with the U.S. Open, set to begin in late August: “Thank you for your continued support, and I’ll see you on the hard courts,” concluded the 30-year-old tennis player.
Berrettini could return toward the end of July, when the ATP 500 in Washington begins, or in early August, when the Montreal Masters 1000 is scheduled first, followed by the Cincinnati Masters 1000.
Berrettini had advanced past the first round in a true marathon match against Stan Wawrinka, which lasted over four hours and a quarter and was decided in four tiebreaks, before defeating world No. 24 Arthur Fils in the second round with a score of 6-4, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. Against Dimitrov, however, the Roman managed to come back from a two-set deficit before ultimately losing in the fifth set, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 6-3, after more than three and a half hours of battle.
