Toko Shengelia may change teams again

Toko Shengelia could be on the move again. Just one season after leaving Virtus Bologna, the Georgian is very close to leaving Barcelona as well. Although his contract with the Blaugrana doesn’t expire until 2027, several EuroLeague clubs are reportedly willing to pay his buyout clause of approximately one million euros. According to *Mundo Deportivo*, Olympiacos is particularly interested in him, though there is a real possibility that both he and his agent are also considering other options among Europe’s top clubs.
A departure that, should it materialize, would definitively bring to a close a Catalan adventure that lasted just one season. Shengelia joined Barcelona in the summer of 2025, after playing a key role in Virtus Bologna’s 17th league title. In the final moments of the playoffs, the Georgian was the hero of several decisive plays: first, 7 points in 3 minutes in Game 5 against Reyer Venezia, which allowed the V Nere to advance to the semifinals; then, the basket with 7 seconds left in Game 1 against Olimpia Milano, which proved decisive in the 68-67 victory. “The victory isn’t my doing but the team’s,” the Georgian commented humbly after that game.
His transfer to Barcelona was part of a major overhaul of the Bianconeri roster following the title win. In addition to Shengelia, Isaia Cordinier had also left Bologna—heading to Monaco—while Marco Belinelli had hung up his sneakers. Three key players lost in one fell swoop, forcing the Emilia-based club to undergo a major rebuild.
In Barcelona, Shengelia was reunited with an old teammate: Will Clyburn, also a former Virtus Bologna player, with whom he had shared his time with the Bianconeri. The two had faced Italian teams during the 2025–26 EuroLeague season, with head coach Ettore Messina himself—on the eve of the match between Olimpia Milano and Barcelona—highlighting the Georgian’s caliber: “It’s great to face a great opponent like Toko Shengelia,” the Milan coach had said. Now, just one season later, Shengelia’s future already seems set elsewhere, with Olympiacos in pole position to secure his services.
