Milan Transfer Market: Agreement with Modric Through 2027 Is Getting Closer

Retirement can wait. Luka Modric is increasingly inclined to continue his career for at least one more season—and to do so while still wearing the Milan jersey. Contract renewal negotiations are in full swing, and an agreement between the parties appears to be imminent. On the very day of his introduction, coach Ruben Amorim had already expressed his desire to continue relying on the experience of the Croatian star. This sentiment is shared by the player, who in just a few months has forged a strong bond with the Rossoneri and the city of Milan.
Despite the disappointment of failing to qualify for the next Champions League, Modric reportedly has no intention of ending his time with the Rossoneri on a sour note. It is precisely his desire to contribute to Milan’s resurgence that has led the midfielder to view the possibility of playing a second season in Serie A favorably.
The unilateral option that would have automatically extended his contract through 2027, while maintaining his €3.5 million salary, was in the former Real Madrid player’s favor but expired on June 30. For this reason, Milan and the player’s representatives are working on a new one-year deal, with a significant portion of his pay tied to bonuses based on appearances and minutes played.
Confidence is growing, and even though a signature is still pending, the renewal could be finalized within a few days. In the meantime, Modric is enjoying his vacation, and if the deal is formalized, he could join his teammates directly in Australia, where Milan will fly at the end of the month for their summer tour.
