Serie A Transfer Market: A Three-Way Race Looms for Kristijan Jakic

Kristijan Jakic’s name has suddenly become one of the most talked-about in this early phase of the summer transfer window. The Croatian midfielder, born in 1997, currently plays for Augsburg and is part of the 2026 World Cup squad for the red-and-white checkered national team; he has caught the attention of Monza, Torino, and Genoa, all of whom are looking for a reliable and versatile reinforcement.
Both the Brianza-based club—newly promoted to Serie A—as well as Torino and Genoa are looking for a player capable of providing balance, intensity, and multiple options in the build-up phase, and for this reason, they have reportedly already tested the waters to gauge the feasibility of a deal. All three clubs are ready to evaluate Augsburg’s asking price, as the German club might decide to sell the player rather than negotiate a renewal of his contract, which expires in June 2028.
Jakic, who started out as a defensive midfielder, can play as an attacking midfielder but also as a center back given his physical build. The Croatian has demonstrated this versatility at every stage of his career, moving from Dinamo Zagreb to Eintracht Frankfurt (with whom he won the Europa League in 2022), and on to his current stint with Augsburg.
The German club does not consider Jakic untouchable: his valuation is around 5 million euros, a figure that makes the deal affordable for all three suitors. For his part, the player is reportedly open to the possibility of a move as early as this transfer window to test himself in Italy’s top flight.
