Openjobmetis Varese is stepping up its activity in the transfer market, and one of the names that is once again gaining traction among management is Kur Kuath, a 208-centimeter South Sudanese big man who was already on their radar last summer. As reported by ‘La Prealpina’, Kuath’s name is part of a broader strategy that, according to the club’s plans, should result in the addition of three new foreign players to complete the roster.

Fresh off a stint in Gran Canaria following his development in Hamburg, Kuath is the type of center who is athletic and defensive—as well as vertical and energetic—capable of protecting the paint and making an immediate impact in rotations. A profile that, at least according to the club’s analysis, would integrate well with the team’s system of play and the characteristics of the perimeter players already on the roster.

Born in 1998, Kur Kuath was born in Khartoum, Sudan, but grew up in the United States, where he played at the NCAA level with the Oklahoma Sooners and the Marquette Golden Eagles. After going undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft, he chose to make the move across the Atlantic that same summer, making his European debut with Lavrio in Greece.

Kuath then finished the 2022–2023 season with Ourense in Spain, before moving to Força Lleida the following season and transferring to Germany for the 2024–2025 season to play for Hamburg. Returning to Spain this past season, he played for Gran Canaria, narrowly missing out on avoiding relegation due to a loss to Valencia on the final day of the regular season and Marco Spissu’s sensational buzzer-beating three-pointer against Rio Breogan, which simultaneously saved Zaragoza.
