Jannik Sinner: “It wasn’t the best year. Alcaraz? He’s in front now.”
Jannik Sinner took stock of 2022 and talked about his rivalry with Carlos Alcaraz
Jannik Sinner in an interview with Sky talked about his 2022, which was a bit below his expectations, “I don’t give up easily, definitely this year was not the best, but not the worst either. I’m 21 years old, I’m young, and I have a lot of things to improve. Definitely this season there have been some unfortunate moments where maybe I could go further and change my level, because sometimes it’s just confidence, you win maybe one tournament and then you go from there; for me, this year was not like that, but it doesn’t mean anything.”
“There is next year, there will be more and more important tournaments, and I will definitely be ready to fight against the best in the world, which then is my goal. I think I’ve made a lot of changes this season, though, and I feel better as a player.”
Sinner didn’t want to talk much about the rivalry with Alcaraz: “I honestly don’t think about it that much, for one thing I’m honest, second thing, he’s in a different position for me to talk about these things. He’s won US Open, he’s won the 1000, he’s won so many things already, I still haven’t won -in quotes- anything. I know that my level is very high when I play well and I have shown it often and I will show it a lot more. I also know the flaws that I have to work on to win major tournaments so we’ll see-especially in the next year, because in my opinion it will be a very important year for me.”
