Juventus Transfer Market: Everything Changes for the Goalkeeper—Negotiations with Atlético Madrid, Green Light from Simeone
Juventus continues its search for a new goalkeeper. The leads involving Emiliano Martinez and Zion Suzuki have gradually cooled off, while reaching an agreement with Tottenham for Guglielmo Vicario remains complicated. The Spurs, at least so far, have not been open to the solution preferred by the Bianconeri—namely, a loan with an option to buy.
For this reason, Juan Musso is emerging as a stronger candidate. The 32-year-old Argentine no longer appears to play a central role in Diego Simeone’s plans at Atlético Madrid, and his profile appeals to Luciano Spalletti. His extensive experience in Serie A, his personality, and his ability to deliver immediate results all work in his favor. Before delving deeper into the matter, however, Juventus will need to understand under what conditions the Spanish club is willing to let him go.
The Musso deal could also tie in with the ongoing talks between Juventus and Atlético Madrid regarding Nico González. The two cases could thus end up on the same table, laying the groundwork for a more complex deal between the two clubs. And we know how much Simeone values his compatriot: “Cholo” has already given his approval.
Musso knows Italian soccer well, having played for Udinese and Atalanta before transferring to the Colchoneros in the summer of 2024. His experience in Serie A is one of the main factors working in his favor in Juventus’ evaluation: the Argentine wouldn’t need a period of adjustment and could deliver immediate results right from the first few matchdays of the season. It’s no coincidence that Napoli had also recently sounded him out as a possible replacement for Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, confirming the interest his profile generates among Italian clubs.
On the outgoing front, meanwhile, Juventus is working on the transfer of Michele Di Gregorio, considered a prerequisite for finalizing the deal for the new goalkeeper. Valencia is reported to have contacted Juventus to inquire about the former Monza player, valued at around 15 million euros, with the Turin club reportedly open to negotiations. The possibility of a move to Marseille also remains on the table, with the French club potentially including midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg—who Juventus had already been tracking during the last winter transfer window—in the deal.
As for the situation involving Nico Gonzalez, the main sticking point remains financial: Juventus has no intention of selling the Argentine under terms that would result in a significant capital loss, given that the player cost a total of over 30 million. Simeone would like to have his compatriot back, but the two clubs’ valuations remain far apart. It is precisely in this context that the possibility of a joint deal involving Musso could prove to be the key to breaking the deadlock in a situation that would otherwise be destined to become even more complicated.
