Sofia Raffaeli, what a scare: How is she doing after the highway accident?

A big scare for Sofia Raffaeli: the Italian rhythmic gymnastics champion was involved in a car accident on the night of August 15–16, news of which only broke today. The Italian athlete was returning from the World Championships in Frankfurt, where she won a silver and a bronze medal, when the Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation’s vehicle, driven by a staff member, collided with a truck on a stretch of highway between Forlì and Cesena.

Our athlete, who was sitting in the back seats of the van, sustained bruises and a cut on her arm and was promptly taken to a nearby emergency room in Romagna, where she was discharged shortly thereafter.

Her condition, especially in light of upcoming competitions, is not a cause for concern. This was reported by *Il Resto del Carlino* and *Il Corriere Adriatico*. Sofia Raffaeli has returned to the gym in Fabriano (Ancona), where she met with club officials and teammates and recounted the incident. In the coming days, she will resume her regular training in preparation for the Italian championship.

The other people who were with her—physical therapist Ragni and coach Serena Ottaviani, both members of the gymnast’s team—were unharmed. Maila Morosin, the technical director of Ginnastica Fabriano, also wanted to reassure everyone: the bronze medalist from the Paris Olympics is doing well. “We can reassure everyone. She was in a minor car accident—nothing serious.”
