Milan Transfer Market: The Rafael Leão Saga Comes to an End—Medical Exams and Signing

Rafael Leao has chosen Galatasaray. After days of deliberation and negotiations that had even seen Aston Villa enter the fray, the Portuguese forward has made up his mind about his future and decided to leave Milan to move to Turkey. This brings Leao’s seven-year stint with the Rossoneri to a close. Milan will receive a total of 44 million euros in a combination of a fixed fee and bonuses, while the player is set to sign a contract worth 12 million euros per season plus bonuses.
Leao is expected to arrive in Istanbul as early as tomorrow to undergo the customary medical exams and sign his new contract with Galatasaray. Having joined Milan in 2019, Leao has been one of the key figures in the Rossoneri’s recent era. Wearing the club’s jersey, he has tallied 145 goals and assists, helping the team win one Scudetto and one Italian Super Cup.
On an individual level, his most significant accolade came during the 2021–22 season, when he was named Serie A MVP. Now the Portuguese player is ready to turn the page. After seven seasons at San Siro, his next destination will be Istanbul, where he will begin a new chapter with Galatasaray.
