Como Falls Behind, Then Routed Genoa: Fabregas Tops the Standings for One Night

Como secured a crushing victory at Marassi in the early match of the third round of Serie A: Cesc Fabregas’s team defeated Genoa 4-1 with goals from Baturina, Diao (two goals), and Paz. The home team’s brief lead, scored by Osmajic, proved fleeting. Thanks to this win, Como sits alone at the top of the standings for one night, with 7 points. De Rossi’s men, on the other hand, remain stuck at zero.

After a very strong start by Como (Bijlow made two great saves on shots by Couto and Nico Paz), Genoa took the lead in the 19th minute by capitalizing on their first chance through Osmajic, who, on a through ball from Colombo, beat Chalobah to the ball and beat Butez. The Rossoblù nearly doubled their lead shortly after through Baldanzi, but in the 25th minute, the visitors equalized: Baturina, left too unmarked by De Rossi’s defense, received the ball from over twenty meters out and fired a shot into the corner, beating Bijlow.

The equalizer fired up Como, who in just a few minutes turned the match into a one-sided affair: in the 30th minute, Valle’s cross was deflected by Ostigard, the ball fell to Diao, who doubled the lead with a volley. In the 78th minute, Como scored a well-deserved fourth goal: debutant Moise Kean, on a counterattack, set up Diao, who netted the fourth.
