Dorothea Wierer on Jannik Sinner and Kimi Antonelli: “They’re two great guys”

Dorothea Wierer looks beyond biathlon and points to Jannik Sinner and Kimi Antonelli as two young Italian champions she particularly admires. In an interview with Corriere dello Sport, the Italian star spoke about the two talents, emphasizing above all the character traits they share.

The South Tyrolean champion, who is preparing to embark on a new chapter, also follows developments in other sports with interest. And when the conversation turns to the leading figures in Italian sports, the names of Sinner and Antonelli hold a special place.

Speaking of Sinner, she mentioned having met him outside of competitions: “He’s a really nice, down-to-earth guy.” This assessment goes beyond the tennis player’s results and focuses above all on his personality. Equally positive words were reserved for Kimi Antonelli, the young Italian Formula 1 star. Wierer said she met him about three years ago and was impressed by his character. “I like interacting with athletes from other sports, because it always offers new insights,” she explained in the interview.

The common thread linking Sinner and Antonelli, according to Wierer, is therefore not just talent. The champion sees in these two young Italian athletes human qualities she recognizes in herself: determination, simplicity, and a mindset built around sports.
