Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, Ben Zwiehoff Signs Extension: The German Will Stay Beyond 2026
Ben Zwiehoff and Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe will continue their partnership. The 32-year-old German has extended his contract with the UCI WorldTeam, reaffirming his status as one of the team’s most experienced and reliable riders well beyond the 2026 season.
A native of Essen, Zwiehoff made the switch to road cycling after a long career in mountain biking. He has been riding for the German team since 2021 and, over the years, has carved out an important role within the squad.
His resume also includes notable individual results, such as second-place finishes at the Czech Tour and the Tour of Türkiye. Zwiehoff’s value, however, has been most evident in the work he has done in support of the team captains, often away from the spotlight and leading up to the decisive stages of races.
This contribution has become particularly evident in the five Grand Tours in which he has competed. In the 2022 Giro d’Italia, he was one of the key riders alongside Jai Hindley, helping the Australian secure the pink jersey. In 2026, he once again worked for Hindley, contributing to his return to the podium in the Italian race.
It is precisely this ability to sacrifice himself for the team that has made Zwiehoff one of the squad’s most reliable domestiques. This quality played a key role in the decision to continue together.
The German welcomed the contract extension, explaining that he feels particularly at home within the team. Zwiehoff emphasized that cycling is a team sport and that even the strongest captain needs teammates capable of controlling the race and handling the most complicated situations. It’s a role, he added, that he continues to enjoy and hopes to continue for a long time to come.
Zak Dempster, Chief of Sports, also expressed satisfaction, highlighting the German rider’s experience and reliability, as well as his ability to support his teammates both during races and off the bike. This contribution rarely shows up in the standings, but it is considered essential by the team and its leaders.
Zwiehoff will therefore remain one of Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe’s key riders in the team’s new cycle, continuing a relationship that began back in 2021.
