The shocking attack on Peppe Poeta: “He made a change at the audience’s request”

An accusation against Peppe Poeta is circulating on Fede Olimpia’s social media, calling into question the professionalism of the talented Biancorossi coach. What has drawn the ire of some fans isn’t so much the result against Real Madrid or the technical difficulties the team displayed, but rather a specific incident that occurred during the game and was later addressed by the coach himself during a press conference.

In his post-game comments, Poeta explained that bringing in Pippo Ricci was a decision driven by the need to shake up a team that was clearly struggling. “We were down by 20; it was a move of desperation,” the coach admitted, linking the substitution to yet another defensive error by Peters and emphasizing that the goal was to try to spark something at a very difficult moment in the game.

On social media, however, several fans interpreted the sequence of events differently. According to this account, Ricci’s entry came after the crowd chanted for him to be brought in, leading to particularly harsh accusations against the coach.

“A coach who puts Pippo in because the crowd demands it has completely lost control of the situation,” wrote one user. Another comment was even harsher: “A coach who substitutes a player at the crowd’s request should be fired before the press conference.” And there are also those who quip: “If the crowd calls for Modric on Thursday, will he bring him in?”

The incident sparked a lengthy debate among the Biancorossi supporters. Some view the timing of the substitution as a worrying sign and argue that the move gave the impression of a coaching staff at the mercy of events. “I’ve never seen, at this level, the crowd call for a substitution and the coach comply. Not even at the CSI,” reads another widely shared comment.

There’s no shortage of personal attacks on Poeta either, with some going so far as to call for his resignation and others questioning his technical expertise. This criticism seems particularly harsh considering that the coach himself, speaking to the media, explained in detail the tactical reasons behind the substitution and publicly took responsibility for the difficult period the team is going through.
