Ivan Juric gives Gustavo Varela a hug and tries to console Cagliari

After a decisive 4-0 win over Cagliari, Ivan Juric is savoring Monza’s second league victory of the season, but he hasn’t lost sight of the areas that still need work. “It was a tough game. In the first half, Cagliari surprised us with their formation, but in the second half we loosened up and played very well—the players understood what was missing in the first half.”
The Brianza-based team’s coach then emphasized that the final result shouldn’t make us forget the initial difficulties. “To be honest, Cagliari played better in the first half today. Then the match went well for us, but they have great players like Maldini, Nzola, and Mendy, so it wasn’t easy.”
Among the key players in the rout was Gustavo Varela, who scored the second and fourth goals, as well as providing the assist for Robinson’s goal. The Portuguese forward has now scored six goals in the league and is establishing himself as a key figure in the Biancorossi’s attack. Juric, however, urges us to also look at the young forward’s potential for growth: “Varela is scoring goals and wants to improve a lot; he’s just getting started and there’s plenty of room for improvement. For now, I can only tell him ‘well done’ because every time he shoots, it’s a goal.”
