Maignan, what are you doing? Milan’s goalkeeper loses his cool

A nightmarish half-hour for Ruben Amorim’s Milan in England, during their Europa League match against Bournemouth. The home team dominated the match from the opening minutes, taking the lead in the 8th minute when Kluivert converted a penalty kick awarded for a handball by De Winter. But the worst was yet to come for the Rossoneri, thanks to Mike Maignan.

In the 27th minute, following a corner kick, the French goalkeeper put his hands in Adams’ face—who had provoked him earlier—causing Adams to fall to the ground and resulting in Maignan’s sensational ejection. Referee Fotias also awarded a penalty kick to Bournemouth, which Tavernier converted past the newly substituted Torriani (who had come on for Hutchinson).

The French international headed dejectedly to the locker room, while on social media, Rossoneri fans are divided between those who openly condemn the goalkeeper and those who blame the referee, whom they claim was too strict.

Down by two goals, down to 10 men, and with virtually no attacking threat (only Cissé up front), Milan is facing a decidedly difficult evening.
