André Agassi offers a candid take on Jannik Sinner’s long hiatus

In an interview with Tennis Channel, André Agassi looked back on the 2026 tennis season, citing Alexander Zverev’s first two Grand Slam victories as the highlight of the season: “It was incredible to watch, even on an emotional level. I know it meant a lot to him. Sascha is one of the most tireless players on the Tour, and seeing that dedication rewarded with the fulfillment of some of his lifelong dreams can only be a source of satisfaction.”
However, the two major stars of the circuit, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, have been missing for a long time this year. Agassi has a message for both of them, particularly for the Italian, who will remain sidelined until 2027. “It was fantastic to see Alcaraz back on the court after so long. And I hope Jannik Sinner is making the most of this time when he’s forced to sit out,” the former U.S. champion said.
“These two young players are essential to tennis. So let’s hope for even better results in 2027,” Agassi concluded. Sinner is in Monte Carlo, where he met with his coach Darren Cahill, dispelling rumors of a possible split at the end of the year.
All eyes are now on 2027: the Italian No. 1’s goal is the Australian Open in January—where he was eliminated in the semifinals this year by Novak Djokovic—and perhaps the Six Kings Slam in Riyadh, rescheduled for December 27–30, although his participation has not yet been confirmed and everything will depend on how his knee injury progresses.
