Cagliari goalkeeper Elia Caprile has become an Albanian citizen, and he could soon be called up by the head coach of the Tirana national team, the Italian Rolando Maran. The player’s partner is an Albanian national, and the Sardinian goalkeeper has been granted dual citizenship.

Theoretically, Caprile could now be called up by Albania: in the past, he was called up by the Azzurri’s head coach, Gennaro Gattuso, but never took the field.

Albania is currently exploring the feasibility of this move with FIFA, while also gauging the player’s interest. Elia Caprile dreams of playing for the Italian national team, but during the last international break he was snubbed by current head coach Roberto Mancini, who preferred Donnarumma, Vicario, Carnesecchi, and Pessina.

In November, ahead of the upcoming Nations League matches, things could change, and Caprile will wait before deciding how to proceed. The 25-year-old goalkeeper from Veneto has played for Pro Patria, Bari, Empoli, Napoli, and Cagliari throughout his career.
