Flavio Cobolli, caught between a rock and a hard place: “I was hoping to make it, but…”

A bitter decision, driven by a sense of responsibility and the desire not to jeopardize the upcoming, crucial events of the season: Flavio Cobolli is forced to throw in the towel and skip the Paris Masters 1000. The injury he sustained at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna during the all-Italian match against Matteo Berrettini continues to take its toll, forcing him to take a precautionary break.
The Italian tennis player shared the news on his social media channels, explaining to fans the reasons behind this difficult but unavoidable decision: “I really hoped I could make it. Today, after media day, I tried to work out at the gym, but I’m still feeling some discomfort and I don’t want to take any risks. That’s why I’ve decided not to play here in Paris. This city has given me the two most important weeks of my career, and returning to play here would have meant so much. Now it’s time to focus on recovery. Thank you for always being there.”
Cobolli currently finds himself caught between a rock and a hard place: on the one hand, the desire and emotional drive with which he hoped to take the court on the Parisian hard courts; on the other, the absolute necessity of preserving his physical condition so as not to jeopardize a season finale in which he dreams of playing a leading role.
Despite the disappointment of having to withdraw from Paris, the Roman’s gaze is firmly fixed on the future. The top priority now is to make a full recovery from his injury so he’ll be ready for two crucial events: the ATP Finals in Turin and the Davis Cup Final Eight with the Italian team, where Jannik Sinner’s absence would make him the highest-ranked Italian player in Bologna.
The decision to take a break right away is precisely in line with this goal: taking a step back today to grit his teeth and be ready for the decisive moments of this intense season finale.
