Name Hakan Sukur: Turkish commentator replaced at halftime
Alper Bakircigil uttered the name of the former Inter Milan striker, a dissident in Erdogan’s government.
Replaced during halftime for uttering a “forbidden name”: the story of Alper Bakircigil, a commentator for TRT, Turkey’s state television, has the unbelievable.
The journalist, who was commenting on the Qatar 2022 match between Morocco and Canada, uttered the name of former Inter Milan and Turkish national team striker Hakan Sukur, a known dissident in Erdogan’s government.
Bakircigil was thus suddenly replaced by a colleague during the intermission, and later he was fired, as reported by the journalist himself on social media: “I have been done away with by TRT, where I have worked proudly for many years, after what occurred today. I hope to see you again, goodbye.”
