Table soccer: entertainment, fun and new champions
Besozzo, in the province of Varese, was the tricolor capital of disabled table soccer, hosting the tenth edition of the absolute Italian championships. Days that drew a hundred athletes from all over Italy, with the farthest team arriving from Sicily.
The Lombardy city welcomed a prestigious event that closed a fantastic season for the Italian Paralympic Federation of Table Football (FPICB), organizer of the event (with quarterfinals, semifinals and finals) together with the municipal administration and the Lombardy Region.
At the end of exciting and exhausting challenges played to the last ball, the new 2022 Italian champions were proclaimed. In the Pro Singles category, an all-Latium podium, with the victory of Daniele Riga (Ascip Ostia) ahead of Corrado Montecaggi (Tuttiinsieme Roma) and Francesco Valente (Vitersport Viterbo). In the Pro Doubles class, victory for Corrado Montecaggi and Luigi Iannone (Campania CalcioBalilla). Second place for Daniele Riga and Giacomopaolo Rossi (Ascip Ostia), third Francesco Valente and Alessandro Nigra Gattinotta (Vitersport Viterbo – La Calciobalilla Sport).
Also among men, in the Semi Pro class, scudetto for the home team of Polha Varese thanks to the victory of the pair formed by Gabutti – Silvestro who beat teammates De Florio – Andretta in the final. Last step of the podium occupied by Bonaldo – Perin (La Barena). Among women, success of Silvana Vettorello (Calcio Veneto for Disable) who gets the tricolor for the third consecutive year. On the podium with the Venetian are Lucia Carbonella (Vitersport) and Laura Sabbioni (Team Ticino).
“They were two intense days in which we experienced incredible emotions,” commented Francesco Bonanno, president of FPICB, “and for this I have to thank all the athletes, protagonists of a healthy competition, who arrived from all parts of Italy with the invaluable help of their clubs. Thanks also to the Municipality of Besozzo that allowed these championships to take place in the facilities that the Administration made available. Thanks to the sponsors Roberto Sport, Off Carr and Stellantis who supported us, to all the federal staff, with Luca Bruno Malaspina in primis, and to all the people who helped us in the organization of these days of sport.”
