Mikaela Shiffrin joins Lindsey Vonn. Federica Brignone also parties.
The U.S. skier equaled the record of her compatriot
Mikaela Shiffrin writes another page of skiing history. The U.S. star won the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, dominating the two runs and reaching 82 World Cup victories.
The American athlete has thus joined compatriot Lindsey Vonn at the top of the overall win list, and is now aiming for Ingemar Stenmark’s all-time record of 86.
Also celebrating on Shiffrin’s day was Federica Brignone, who scored her first podium of the season: an excellent second place that gives the Aosta Valley native confidence after a below-expectation start to the season. Third was Switzerland’s Lara Gut-Behrami.
After seven consecutive podiums in the giant slalom, Marta Bassino’s series was interrupted, finishing fifth behind Slovak Petra Vlhova but still leading the specialty ranking.
