Federica Brignone, stunning silver: only Shiffrin beats Azzurra
Splendid second place for Federica Brignone in the World Ski Championship race in Courchevel-Meribel
Federica Brignone took a splendid silver medal in the women’s Giant Slalom event at the World Ski Championships in Courchevel-Meribel. The skier from Valle d’Aosta, already a gold medalist in the combined and coming back from a nagging flu, took second place behind U.S. star Mikaela Shiffrin, who took gold with a time of 2’07″13.
Third after the first run, Brignone outdid herself in the second run, finishing just 12 hundredths behind the star-studded champion. Bronze went to Norway’s Ragnhild Mowinckel. Great regrets for Marta Bassino, who, after finishing outside the top 10 after the first run, made a great comeback in the second run, finishing fifth behind Switzerland’s Lara Gut-Behrami.
Happy Federica Brignone after her finish at Rai: “I tried to attack scraping the bottom of the barrel. I am really satisfied, so many people came to see me.”
