ATP Doha, debut with regrets for Sonego: Murray wins
Sonego goes down with Murray in opener
Lorenzo Sonego emerges defeated from a two-and-a-half-hour battle with Andy Murray in the first round of the Doha ATP 250. Many regrets for the Italian, who saw three match points cancelled by the Scottish tennis player who overcame him in a comeback with a score of 4-6 6-1 7-6.
Sonego started with a bang in the first set, winning the break in the opening game and holding on to it until the final 6-4. In the second partial, however, comes the angry reaction of the Scot, who concedes crumbs to his opponent and takes home the set quite easily. The third and decisive set is the most balanced one so much so that it comes to the tie-break even if there is no lack of regrets for the Italian tennis player who wastes three match points in the tenth game. Arrived at the tie-break Sonego rises 3-0 but goes off at the most beautiful: Murray string six consecutive points and closes for 7 points to 4.
Sonego thus says goodbye to the Doha ATP, Murray will face Zverev in the second round.
