Paolo Bertolucci drastic on Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini
The words of Paolo Bertolucci
Paolo Bertolucci spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport about the future of Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini: “It’s time for drastic choices for both of them. And with a word that cannot be taboo: super coach. That is, a highly qualified figure to flank the historic coaches Santopadre and Tartarini and provide players with a different perspective from which to look at their own tennis and that of their opponents. It is not a matter of disowning the work done so far, of totally severing the original roots (although Sinner has done it), but rather of relying on a different thinking that can complete and refine the path undertaken and in these years.”
“On the other hand, even the Federers, the Djokovics, the Murrays at some point in their careers felt it necessary to include a figure in the team who would provide new references. The super coach, let’s be clear, is not a guru called upon to twist the player’s technical references, but rather a consultant who suggests the best management of the match, from its technical and psychological aspects, before and after. Specifically, Santopadre for Berrettini and Tartarini for Musetti, who are certainly to be credited with leading students to the top, would continue to deal with the day-to-day work that is equally fundamental in defining a well-rounded champion. And any self-respecting revolution can also act deeper, perhaps bringing new expertise to the delicate area of athletic training as well.”
