Super Rasmus Hojlund not enough: 5 goals in 2 games, but Denmark loses
The young center forward continues to enchant, but his teammates are not supporting him this time.
Rasmus Hojlund remains a major player for Denmark, whose centerpiece of the attack he has quickly become. However, a new double, which makes the 20-year-old’s roster from Atalanta resounding, is not enough to pick up a new victory. In fact, the Scandinavian selection was caught up and overtaken by a surprising Kazakhstan, capable of winning 3-2 after a two-goal disadvantage.
The two goals in question had once again both been signed by Hojlund. The 2003-born forward had scored in the 21st minute with a fine left-footed lob, then settled a furious scrum in the box in the 36th minute with an unstoppable right-footed shot. For him it was his fourth and fifth goals in the national team, all coming in the last three days. In fact, on Thursday the Atalantino had scored all three goals with which his Denmark defeated Finland 3-1.
Against Kazakhstan, however, his golden moment was not enough: in the last twenty minutes, in fact, came the three overtaking goals for the hosts of the Astana match. In the 73rd minute Zaynutdinov converted a penalty awarded for a naïve hand check by Wind in the box, then came Tagybergen’s fireball from the distance in the 86th minute and Aymbetov’s decisive framing in the 89th minute.
An unexpected and bitter knockout that does not erase Hojlund’s crazy statistics with Denmark. In fact, that’s five goals to his credit in just four appearances, including as a starter in only the two games in which all the scoring came.
