Holger Rune knocked out in Monte Carlo thinks back to Jannik Sinner: his message

A defeat whose justification, in part, also lies in the semifinal.

Holger Rune failed to win the Monte Carlo Masters 1000, the final of which went to rival Andrey Rublev. However, the Dane, in a press conference, attributed part of his defeat to the exertions Jannik Sinner forced him to endure in the semifinals.

“Yesterday’s match was really very long, and we finished late,” Rune recalled. I didn’t have enough time to recover after the challenge with Sinner, and against Rune I did everything I could. And I really gave everything. Then 90 percent of the audience was in Sinner’s favor, and I think they went crazy when I won. He however is great, and in Rome I hope to face him and beat him again.”

Rune then dwelt on one of the key moments of the Monte Carlo final. “I was up 4-1, and I had a chance to break Rublev again. I was in control, but I couldn’t close the match. I’m very disappointed with how it ended, but that’s the way tennis is. I will study my mistakes to improve again,” he said.
