Tottenham: after Antonio Conte, Cristian Stellini also exonerated
Official: Cristian Stellini is no longer the coach of Tottenham
Second bench change in a matter of weeks for Tottenham. Spurs, after saying goodbye to Antonio Conte, have also exonerated Cristian Stellini, who had taken over from the Salento coach. The heavy defeat against Newcastle 6-1 in the last Premier League round was decisive.
“Sunday’s performance against Newcastle was completely unacceptable,” wrote chairman Daniel Levy. “It was devastating to watch. We can look at many reasons why it happened, and while I, the board, the coaches and the players must all take collective responsibility, ultimately the responsibility is mine.”
“Cristian will leave his current role along with his coaching staff. Cristian stepped in at a difficult time in our season, and I want to thank him for the professional way he and his technical staff have conducted themselves during such a challenging period. We wish him and his staff all the best.”
“Ryan Mason will assume the duties of head coach effective immediately. Ryan knows the club and the players well. We will update further on his coaching staff in due course. Today I met with the Players’ Committee: the team is determined to come together to ensure the best possible finish to the season. We are all clear that we must deliver performances that earn your extraordinary support,” this was the note issued by the London club.
