Sunday of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship opens with the Tissot Superpole Race: the victory goes again to Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) who at Donington Park opens the last day of the Prosecco DOC Round of Great Britain in the best way by also setting the new record lap with Pirelli’s new SCQ tires.
Razgatlioglu, as in Race 1, took the lead at the first corner and remained at the front of the race that saw him ahead of Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK). As in Race 1, the fight for third place also features Scott Redding (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) and Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK). For Redding this is the first podium with the German manufacturer.
Lowes overtook Redding at the chicane between Turns 9-10, then fought with the Englishman at Turns 11 and 12 before Redding’s response in Turn 1. On the final lap Lowes was overtaken at Turn 9 by championship leader Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati), who thus finished in fourth position. The top three mounted the SCQ, while Bautista and his boxmate Michael Ruben Rinaldi – sixth – aimed for the SCX.
From the third row in Race 2 will see Iker Lecuona (Team HRC), Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) and Loris Baz (Bonovo Action BMW) start. 10th and 12th respectively are Garrett Gerloff (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) and Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing), separated by Philipp Oettl (Team Goeleven).
