Real Madrid: Carlo Ancelotti sheds light on his future
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti spoke at a press conference on the eve of the La Liga away match against Valencia, shedding light on his future.
“Wednesday’s was just a defeat. I still have enthusiasm and desire to do well here at Real Madrid. Everyone knows my situation, I have a contract until June 30, 2024, and I want to honor it. Yesterday we had a meeting with the president, Florentino Perez, who expressed his support for me,” he said further. “We are going forward with the same hope of doing well. Ours has been a good season, but it certainly could have been better. We are not satisfied with the result in La Liga, but in other competitions we are: we won the Copa del Rey and fought to the last in the Champions League. Now we will try to see what we can do better.”
Then speaking about the team and the rout against Manchester City in the Champions League, Ancelotti defended Karim Benzema: “To doubt Karim makes no sense. He can have a bad game, it can happen, but he was not the only one. He remains a very important player, a legend for this club. If he doesn’t have a good game, nothing changes. On Wednesday the whole team did not work, not only Karim. The youngsters will gradually get more prominence and sooner or later the day will come when Benzema, Modric, Nacho, Carvajal… will stop playing for this team, but it will not be in the next season.”
